Exodus 1 Summary
Israel Enslaved in Egypt
A new Pharaoh arises who does not know Joseph and fears the growing Israelite population. He enslaves Israel with brutal forced labor. When that fails to limit their growth, he commands the murder of newborn Hebrew boys. The midwives Shiphrah and Puah fear God and disobey the command, preserving life.
