Bible Chapter Summary
Exodus 25 Summary
Instructions for the Tabernacle and Its Furnishings
The LORD instructs Moses to collect a willing freewill offering from the Israelites—comprising precious metals, fine fabrics, skins, wood, oils, spices, and gemstones—for the purpose of building a sanctuary so that God may dwell among His people. God then provides detailed specifications for the Ark of the Covenant: an acacia-wood chest overlaid with pure gold inside and out, fitted with golden rings and carrying poles, topped by a golden mercy seat flanked by two beaten-gold cherubim with outstretched wings, where God declares He will meet and commune with Moses. Further instructions are given for a gold-overlaid acacia-wood table to hold the perpetual showbread, complete with golden rings, carrying poles, and pure gold utensils. Finally, God commands the construction of a seven-branched pure gold lampstand (menorah) of beaten work, shaped with almond-blossom bowls, knobs, and flowers, along with its gold tongs and snuff dishes—all to be made from a talent of pure gold according to the pattern shown to Moses on the mountain.
