Bible Chapter Summary
Ezra 8 Summary
Ezra Gathers and Transports Treasury
Ezra lists the chief men of the families who go up with him from Babylon, totaling over fifteen hundred men. He gathers them at the river Ahava, finds no sons of Levi among them, and sends for Levites to come serve in the house of God. Ezra proclaims a fast and seeks the LORD's guidance for a right way for their journey, ashamed to ask the king for soldiers when they had declared God's power over all who seek Him. Twelve chief priests are appointed to weigh the silver, gold, and vessels Ezra has gathered, and they depart for Jerusalem with God's hand protecting them from enemies.
