Bible Chapter Summary
Ezra 7 Summary
Ezra Goes to Jerusalem with King's Commission
In the reign of King Artaxerxes, Ezra the priest—a ready scribe in the law of Moses—goes up from Babylon with some of the people of Israel, priests, Levites, singers, porters, and Nethinims in the seventh year of the king. The king grants Ezra all his requests and gives him a letter commissioning him to carry silver and gold for the house of God and to teach the statutes and judgments to all the people. Ezra is authorized to appoint magistrates and judges and to execute judgment upon those who break the law of God and the law of the king.
