Bible Chapter Summary
Haggai 1 Summary
The Call to Rebuild the Temple
In the second year of Darius, the LORD speaks through Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel and Joshua, rebuking the people for dwelling in comfortable houses while the LORD's house remains waste. The LORD declares that their neglect has brought judgement: they sow much but harvest little, eat but are not satisfied, and experience a drought upon the land and all their labors. When Zerubbabel, Joshua, and the remnant of the people hear these words and fear the LORD, He stirs up their spirits, and they obey the voice of the prophet by returning to work on the house of the LORD.
