Bible Chapter Summary
Hebrews 7 Summary
Melchisedec and Christ's Eternal Priesthood
The author explains that Melchisedec, king of Salem and priest of the most high God, who met and blessed Abraham, typifies Christ's priesthood. Unlike the Levitical priests who die and are succeeded, Melchisedec has no recorded genealogy, father, mother, or end of life, making him a figure of Christ's eternal priesthood. The change from Levitical to Melchisedec's order necessitates a change in law, as Christ—holy, harmless, undefiled, and higher than the heavens—offered himself once for all, having an unchangeable priesthood by which he saves those who come to God through him.
