Bible Chapter Summary

Isaiah 10 Summary

Woe to Unjust Rulers and Assyria's Fall

Woe to those who decree unrighteous decrees and rob the poor and fatherless of justice; in the day of visitation and desolation they shall find no help and bow down among prisoners. The Lord uses Assyria as the rod of His anger against an hypocritical nation, yet Assyria's king boasts that by his own strength and wisdom he has destroyed many kingdoms and will do the same to Jerusalem as he did to Samaria. However, the Lord will punish Assyria's pride and stout heart after His work is accomplished on Mount Zion, for the axe cannot boast against the one who wields it. The Lord will send leanness among Assyria's fat ones and consume his forest like a burning fire, leaving few trees. The remnant of Israel shall no more stay upon him that smote them but shall stay upon the Lord, for though Israel be as sand, only a remnant shall return and consume shall overflow with righteousness.
