Bible Chapter Summary
Jeremiah 1 Summary
Jeremiah Called as a Prophet
The Lord calls Jeremiah, a priest from Anathoth, as a prophet to the nations. Though Jeremiah protests his youth and inability to speak, the Lord assures him not to be afraid and promises His presence. God touches Jeremiah's mouth, placing His words there, and gives him authority over nations to uproot and destroy but also to build and plant. Jeremiah receives two visions: a rod of an almond tree signifying God will hasten His word, and a seething pot tilting from the north, representing evil coming from the north upon all inhabitants of the land.
