Bible Chapter Summary

Jeremiah 10 Summary

Idols Condemned and God Exalted

The Lord warns Israel not to learn the way of the heathen or fear the signs of heaven, for heathen customs are vain. Though people cut a tree and deck it with silver and gold, fastening it with nails so it will not move, such idols cannot speak, must be borne, and can do neither evil nor good. The Lord alone is great and exalted above all nations, having made the earth by His power and established the world by His wisdom. By His voice there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and He brings forth winds from His treasures. The Lord calls Israel to gather their wares and flee, promising to sling out the inhabitants of the land, yet pleading for Jeremiah to remember that man's way is not in himself and to seek God's correction in judgment, not anger.
