Bible Chapter Summary
Jeremiah 13 Summary
The Marred Linen Girdle as Sign
God commands Jeremiah to obtain a linen girdle, wear it, then hide it by the Euphrates river. After many days, Jeremiah retrieves the marred, useless girdle, and God explains the sign: as the girdle is ruined, so will He ruin the pride of Judah and Jerusalem. Because they refuse to hear His words and walk after other gods, they shall become like the worthless girdle. God promises to fill all inhabitants with drunkenness and dash them against one another without pity or mercy. The cities of the south will be besieged and Judah wholly carried away captive.
