Bible Chapter Summary

Jeremiah 14 Summary

Drought, False Prophets, and Famine

A drought brings suffering to Judah: gates languish, nobles find no water at the pits, the ground is cracked, beasts and hinds forsake the land. The people acknowledge their iniquities and ask God for help, but God tells Jeremiah not to pray for their good. During famine, God will not hear their cries or accept their offerings; rather He will consume them by sword, famine, and pestilence. False prophets declare assured peace, but God condemns them as liars sent by no divine command; these prophets themselves will be consumed by sword and famine. Neither prophet nor priest can be buried, and Jerusalem becomes a desolate sight.
