Bible Chapter Summary
Jeremiah 46 Summary
Egypt's Defeat at Carchemish
The Lord spoke against Egypt and the army of Pharaoh-necho at Carchemish, whom Nebuchadrezzar had defeated. The prophecy summons warriors to battle, yet they are dismayed and flee northward toward the river Euphrates. Egypt rises like a flood claiming it will cover the earth and destroy cities, but the Lord calls this His day of vengeance where the sword shall devour and be made drunk with blood. Egypt is called a fair heifer unable to be cured, and the nations shall hear of her shame. Her hired men turn back and flee because the day of calamity has come.
