Bible Chapter Summary
Jeremiah 6 Summary
Siege and Judgment on Jerusalem
The Lord warns the children of Benjamin to flee as evil breaks forth from the north, likening daughter Zion to a comely woman now surrounded by shepherds pitching tents against her. He commands them to hew down trees and cast a mount against Jerusalem, for the city is wholly oppression. Jeremiah grieves that the people have not heard the prophets or received correction, so God fills him with fury to pour out upon children, husbands with wives, and the aged. The Lord rejects their burnt offerings and sacrifices, having required only obedience to His voice, and declares that their dead shall be meat for fowls and beasts.
