Jeremiah 7 Summary

The Temple No Guarantee of Salvation

Standing in the gate of the Lord's house, Jeremiah proclaims that the Lord will cause the people to dwell in the land only if they amend their ways and execute judgment, not oppress the stranger or shed innocent blood. The people falsely trust in the temple itself rather than true obedience, yet they steal, murder, commit adultery, and worship Baal. The Lord declares the temple will become a den of robbers and threatens to do to it what He did to Shiloh. The Lord forbids Jeremiah to pray for them, and reveals that instead of burnt offerings, He desires obedience, and that Judah has built high places in Tophet to burn their sons and daughters, which He never commanded.
