Bible Chapter Summary

Joshua 18 Summary

Benjamin's Lot Surveyed and Assigned

The whole congregation of Israel assembles at Shiloh and erects the tabernacle there, establishing it as the new religious center. Joshua rebukes the seven tribes that have not yet received their inheritance for their slowness and commands each tribe to appoint three men to survey the remaining land, describe it in seven parts, and return so that Joshua may cast lots for them before the LORD. The surveyors complete their task and record the divisions in a book, after which Joshua casts lots at Shiloh and distributes the land. The first lot falls to Benjamin, and the chapter details its boundaries—running between Judah to the south and Joseph to the north—and enumerates its twenty-six assigned cities, including Jericho, Beth-el, Gibeon, and Jerusalem.
