Joshua 19 Summary

Remaining Tribal Allotments Completed at Shiloh

Joshua 19 records the distribution of the remaining seven tribal inheritances by lot at Shiloh. Simeon received territory carved out of Judah's oversized portion, including Beer-sheba and thirteen named cities. Zebulun, Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and Dan each received defined allotments with their borders and cities enumerated; notably, Dan's portion proved too small, leading the Danites to conquer Leshem and rename it Dan. Finally, after all the land had been divided, the Israelites honored Joshua by granting him the city of Timnath-serah in mount Ephraim, which he built and inhabited, bringing the entire process of land division—conducted by Eleazar the priest, Joshua, and the tribal heads before the LORD at the tabernacle door—to a close.
