Bible Chapter Summary
Joshua 2 Summary
Rahab Hides the Two Spies
Joshua secretly sends two spies from Shittim to scout Jericho, and they lodge at the house of a harlot named Rahab. When the king of Jericho learns of their presence and demands Rahab hand them over, she hides the men under flax stalks on her roof and misdirects the king's soldiers toward the Jordan fords. Rahab then professes her faith that the LORD has given the land to Israel, citing the drying of the Red Sea and the defeat of Sihon and Og, and she secures a sworn oath from the spies to spare her household; they instruct her to mark her window with a scarlet thread as the sign of protection. The spies hide in the mountains for three days, evade their pursuers, and return safely to Joshua to report that the LORD has delivered the whole land into Israel's hands.
