Bible Chapter Summary
Judges 7 Summary
Gideon's Three Hundred
The LORD tells Gideon his army is too large, lest Israel boast in its own strength, so the fearful are sent home and the rest are tested at the water until only three hundred who lapped remain. Reassured by overhearing a Midianite's dream of a tumbling barley loaf, Gideon divides the three hundred into companies armed with trumpets, pitchers, and torches. At his signal they smash the pitchers, blow the trumpets, and cry, 'The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon,' and the LORD turns the Midianites' swords against one another. Israel pursues and slays the princes Oreb and Zeeb.
