Bible Chapter Summary
Lamentations 3 Summary
Individual Lament and Hope in God's Mercy
A man speaks of seeing terrible affliction by the rod of God's wrath, being led into darkness with bones broken and flesh aged; the Lord built against him with gall and travail, hedging him in darkness. He was rejected, derided, filled with bitterness and wormwood, his strength and hope perished; yet remembering God's mercies and faithfulness, he recalls that the Lord's compassions fail not and are new each morning. He declares the Lord is his portion and he will hope in Him, calling for his soul and the people to search their ways and turn again to the Lord. Though affliction continues, the Lord hears his cries, pleads his cause, and has redeemed his life.
