Leviticus 8 Summary

Ordination of Aaron and His Sons

At the LORD's command, Moses assembles the entire congregation at the tabernacle entrance and publicly consecrates Aaron and his sons for the priesthood. He washes them, clothes Aaron in the full high-priestly garments—including the ephod, breastplate, Urim and Thummim, mitre, and golden crown—and clothes his sons in their priestly coats and bonnets, then anoints the tabernacle, its furnishings, and Aaron with the holy anointing oil. Moses then offers a sin offering (bullock), a burnt offering (first ram), and a ram of consecration on behalf of Aaron and his sons, applying the blood of the consecration ram to their right ears, thumbs, and great toes, and performing a wave offering of fat portions and unleavened bread placed in their hands. The ceremony concludes with Moses sprinkling a mixture of anointing oil and altar blood upon Aaron, his sons, and their garments, and charging them to remain at the tabernacle door for seven days to complete their consecration, exactly as the LORD had commanded.
