Bible Chapter Summary
Leviticus 9 Summary
Aaron's First Offerings and God's Glory
On the eighth day following the ordination period, Moses summoned Aaron, his sons, and the elders of Israel and directed Aaron to offer a young calf for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering on his own behalf, and to bring additional sin offerings, burnt offerings, peace offerings, and a grain offering on behalf of the people. Aaron carried out each sacrifice in sequence — slaughtering the sin offering, applying its blood to the altar's horns, burning the prescribed fat portions, and performing the burnt offerings, peace offerings, grain offering, and wave offering exactly as the LORD had commanded through Moses. After completing all the offerings, Aaron blessed the people; then Moses and Aaron together entered the tabernacle of the congregation, came out, and blessed the people a second time. At that moment the glory of the LORD appeared to all the congregation, and fire came out from before the LORD and consumed the burnt offering and the fat upon the altar, causing all the people to shout and fall on their faces in reverence.
