Malachi 4 Summary

The Day of the Lord and Elijah's Coming

The Lord declares that a day is coming that shall burn as an oven, consuming all the proud and wicked, leaving them neither root nor branch. However, for those that fear His name, the Sun of righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings, and they shall tread down the wicked as ashes. The Lord commands Israel to remember the law of Moses and His statutes, and promises to send Elijah the prophet before the great and dreadful day of the Lord to turn the hearts of fathers and children to one another, lest He come and smite the earth with a curse.
