The Gospel Begins: Baptism Temptation and First Calls

Mark opens with breathless urgency: the beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, Son of God. John baptizes; Jesus is baptized and the Spirit descends. Immediately he is driven into the wilderness. Immediately he calls fishermen who immediately leave their nets. He heals, casts out demons, and preaches in the synagogues.
