Bible Chapter Summary

Mark 2 Summary

Healing and Calling Levi

Jesus enters Capernaum and is quickly surrounded by crowds. When a man sick of the palsy is brought to him on a bed by four men who break through the roof, Jesus forgives his sins and commands him to rise and walk, revealing his power to forgive sins on earth. Jesus then calls Levi, a publican, to follow him, and eats with tax collectors and sinners, explaining that he came to call sinners to repentance. He teaches that new wine cannot be put into old bottles, and defends his disciples' plucking grain on the sabbath by asserting that the Son of man is Lord of the sabbath.
