Bible Chapter Summary
Mark 9 Summary
Transfiguration and Demon Cast Out
Jesus tells his disciples that some standing there shall see the kingdom of God come with power, then takes Peter, James, and John up a high mountain where he is transfigured before them, his raiment shining white as snow, and Elias and Moses appear and talk with him. A cloud overshadows them and a voice declares Jesus to be God's beloved Son; when the disciples look around, they see Jesus only. Coming down from the mountain, Jesus foretells his suffering, death, and resurrection on the third day. He then encounters his disciples unable to cast out a dumb and deaf spirit from a boy; Jesus casts it out with power and teaches that such demons require prayer and fasting. He again foretells his death and resurrection, and later teaches his disciples about greatness in God's kingdom, warning against offending little ones and instructing them to cut off offending members rather than go into hell.
