Bible Chapter Summary

Numbers 34 Summary

Boundaries and Leaders for Dividing Canaan

The LORD instructs Moses to delineate the precise boundaries of the land of Canaan that Israel is to receive as an inheritance, describing in detail the south, west, north, and east borders. Moses then clarifies to the people that this allotment is for the nine and a half tribes, since Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh had already received their inheritance east of the Jordan near Jericho. The LORD then names the men appointed to oversee the division of the land: Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun, assisted by one designated prince from each of the nine and a half tribes. The chapter closes by listing the names of all ten tribal princes commissioned by the LORD to apportion the inheritance in Canaan.
