The Beginning of Wisdom: Fear of the LORD
Proverbs opens with its purpose: giving wisdom and instruction, understanding and prudence to the young. The foundation is stated: the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. A father instructs his son to seek wisdom and shun the enticement of sinners. Wisdom herself cries out in the streets.
