Bible Chapter Summary
Psalms 139 Summary
The Omniscient and Omnipresent God
The psalmist praises God for searching him and knowing him completely—His understanding of the psalmist's sitting and rising, his thoughts from afar, his path and lying down, and every word on his tongue. God besets him behind and before with His hand, knowledge too wonderful to attain. There is nowhere to flee from God's spirit or presence; whether ascending to heaven, descending to hell, or taking wings to the sea's end, God's hand guides and holds him. Darkness and light are alike to God. The psalmist praises God for being fearfully and wonderfully made, and asks God to search his heart and lead him in the everlasting way.
