Bible Chapter Summary
Psalms 49 Summary
Wisdom on wealth, death, and redemption
The psalmist addresses all people, rich and poor alike, calling them to hear wisdom about the vanity of wealth. None can redeem his brother or give God a ransom for his soul, for the redemption of the soul is precious and ceases forever. Wise men and fools both die and perish, leaving their wealth to others, yet foolishly believe their houses shall continue forever and call their lands after their own names. But God will redeem the psalmist's soul from the power of the grave, while wicked men shall go to the grave in darkness and have no dominion in the morning.
