Bible Chapter Summary
Psalms 68 Summary
God's Power and the Procession of Praise
The psalm calls God to arise so His enemies be scattered and those who hate Him flee before Him. As smoke is driven away and wax melts before fire, the wicked perish at God's presence, while the righteous rejoice. God is extolled as He rideth upon the heavens, and He is a father to the fatherless and judge of widows. When God went forth before His people through the wilderness, the earth shook and the heavens dropped at His presence at Sinai. God sent plentiful rain to confirm His inheritance and prepared goodness for the poor. The psalm recounts God's dealings with Israel and includes a great procession of singers, players, and maidens playing timbrels, with peoples from many nations bringing gifts and submitting themselves to God.
