Bible Chapter Summary
Psalms 69 Summary
Suffering, Reproach, and Deliverance Sought
The psalmist cries for salvation as waters come into his soul and he sinks in deep mire with no standing, overwhelmed by deep waters. He is weary from crying, his throat dried and eyes failing as he waits for God. He faces enemies who hate him without cause and seek to destroy him wrongfully, yet he acknowledges his own foolishness and hidden sins before God. The psalmist has borne reproach for God's sake, become a stranger to his brethren, and endured mockery and song from drunkards while he prayed and fasted. He implores God to deliver him from the mire and deep waters, and warns that God's judgment will fall on his enemies as their table becomes a snare. The psalm concludes with assurance that God hears the poor and will save Zion, building the cities of Judah so the seed of God's servants may dwell and possess them.
