Bible Chapter Summary
Revelation 13 Summary
Vision of the Beast from the Sea and Mark of the Beast
John sees a beast rise from the sea with seven heads and ten horns, each horn crowned with blasphemous names; it resembles a leopard with bear's feet and lion's mouth, receiving power and authority from the dragon. When one of its heads appears mortally wounded but heals, the whole world wonders after it and worships both the dragon and the beast. The beast blasphemes God for forty-two months and makes war against the saints, overcoming them over all kindreds, tongues, and nations. All whose names are not written in the Lamb's book of life worship the beast. A second beast rises from the earth with two lamb-like horns and speaks as a dragon, exercising the first beast's power, causing men to make an image to the beast and working miracles to deceive those on the earth. This second beast gives life to the image so it speaks and kills those who refuse to worship it, and causes all men to receive a mark in their right hand or forehead, without which none may buy or sell; the number of the beast is 666.
