Bible Chapter Summary

Ruth 4 Summary

Boaz redeems Ruth and marries her

Boaz goes to the city gate and speaks with the nearest kinsman about redeeming Naomi's land. When the kinsman learns the purchase includes Ruth the Moabitess to raise up the name of the dead, he declines, saying it would mar his own inheritance. Boaz then declares before the elders and all the people that he has purchased Naomi's property and Ruth as his wife. The people and elders bless him, comparing Ruth to Rachel and Leah and the child to the house of Pharez. Ruth conceives and bears a son. The women name him Obed, declaring he is a restorer of Naomi's life. The genealogy reveals Obed becomes the father of Jesse, the father of David.
