Organization of the Levites

In his old age, David makes Solomon king and gathers the princes, priests, and Levites. He organizes the Levites into their tribal divisions: Gershonites, Kohathites, and Merarites, numbering thirty-eight thousand total. David appoints twenty-four thousand for the temple service, six thousand as officers and judges, four thousand as porters, and four thousand as musicians praising the Lord.
