Bible Chapter Summary
1 Samuel 11 Summary
Saul Defeats the Ammonites
Nahash the Ammonite besieges Jabesh-gilead, demanding the right to blind all the men as a condition of surrender. The city's elders request seven days to seek help from Israel. When Saul hears of this, the Spirit of God comes upon him and he rallies Israel's forces, gathering three hundred thousand footmen and thirty thousand men of Judah. Saul defeats the Ammonites the next morning, scattering them completely. The people then journey to Gilgal and renew Saul's kingship before the Lord, offering sacrifices and rejoicing.
