Bible Chapter Summary
1 Timothy 5 Summary
Care for Elders, Widows, and Church Order
Paul instructs Timothy in proper conduct toward different groups: elders should be entreated as fathers, younger men as brethren, elder women as mothers, and younger women as sisters. He addresses the honor due to widows indeed, those truly desolate and trusting in God who pray night and day, while those living in pleasure are dead while living. The church should support widows properly through family provision first. Elders who rule well deserve double honor, especially those laboring in word and doctrine. Paul charges Timothy not to lay hands hastily on anyone and to keep himself pure.
