Bible Chapter Summary
2 Chronicles 25 Summary
Amaziah's Mixed Righteousness and Defeat
Amaziah begins to reign at age twenty-five, doing right but not with a perfect heart. He executes his father's assassins but spares their children, following the law of Moses. He musters Judah's army and hires mercenaries from Israel, but a prophet warns him that God is not with Israel. Amaziah dismisses them and defeats the Edomites alone, capturing their gods and worshiping them. God's anger kindles at this idolatry; Amaziah ignores the prophet's rebuke. He then challenges King Joash of Israel, who defeats him decisively, breaks down Jerusalem's wall, and carries away treasure and hostages.
