Bible Chapter Summary
2 Chronicles 8 Summary
Solomon's Later Works and Tribute
After twenty years of building the temple and his palace, Solomon rebuilds and resettles cities given to him by Huram. He conquers Hamath-zobah and builds store cities, fortress cities, chariot cities, and horsemen cities throughout his realm. Solomon imposes tribute on the Canaanite peoples remaining in the land but makes the children of Israel serve only as men of war and officers. He brings Pharaoh's daughter from the city of David to her own house. Solomon orders burnt offerings according to Moses' law and organizes the courses of priests, Levites, and porters. Ships sent to Ophir return with four hundred fifty talents of gold.
