Bible Chapter Summary

2 Kings 20 Summary

Hezekiah's Sickness and Recovery

Hezekiah falls sick unto death, and Isaiah declares the LORD's command to set his house in order and prepare to die. Hezekiah turns to the wall and prays earnestly, reminding the LORD of his faithful and perfect walk. Before Isaiah leaves the court, the LORD sends word to tell Hezekiah that his prayer is heard, his tears are seen, and he will be healed and go to the temple on the third day. The LORD adds fifteen years to Hezekiah's life and will protect him and the city from Assyria. Isaiah applies figs as medicine, and Hezekiah recovers. When Berodach-baladan of Babylon sends letters and a gift, Hezekiah shows him all his treasures. Isaiah then prophesies that these treasures and Hezekiah's own descendants will be carried to Babylon.
