Bible Chapter Summary

Isaiah 50 Summary

The Servant's Suffering and Victory

The Lord asks where is the bill of Israel's mother's divorcement, declaring that by their iniquities they sold themselves and by their transgressions their mother is put away. When the Lord came, there was no man to answer when He called. The Lord demonstrates His power by making rivers a wilderness at His rebuke. The Lord God gave the servant the tongue of the learned to speak a word in season to him that is weary, opening his ear to hear and be not rebellious. The servant gave his back to smiters and his cheeks to those that plucked off hair, and hid not his face from shame and spitting. Because the Lord God helps him, the servant sets his face like a flint, knowing he shall not be ashamed. The Lord is near to justify him, and none shall condemn him. The chapter closes with a call for the wicked who kindle fire to walk in the light of their own fire and lie down in sorrow.
