Bible Chapter Summary

Jeremiah 27 Summary

Bonds and Yokes for the Nations

God commands Jeremiah to make bonds and yokes and send them to surrounding kings through messengers to Zedekiah, with a message declaring that God has given all lands into Nebuchadrezzar's hand and all nations must serve him or be punished with sword, famine, and pestilence. Jeremiah warns against false prophets who say the people will not serve Babylon, for they prophesy lies unsent by God to drive the people to destruction. He assures Zedekiah that nations submitting to Babylon's yoke will remain in their own land, but those rebelling will perish. The chapter also warns that vessels of the LORD's house that were not carried away in the first exile will be taken to Babylon and remain until God visits them.
