Bible Chapter Summary

Luke 23 Summary

Trial, Crucifixion, and Burial

Jesus is brought before Pilate and accused of perverting the nation and forbidding tribute to Caesar. Pilate finds no fault but yields to the crowd's demand for crucifixion, releasing Barabbas instead. Jesus is crucified at Calvary between two malefactors; one mocks him while the other asks remembrance in the kingdom, to which Jesus promises he shall be with him that day in paradise. Darkness covers the earth, the veil of the temple is rent, and Jesus commends his spirit to God. A righteous counselor named Joseph buries Jesus in a hewn sepulcher.
