Bible Chapter Summary

Luke 8 Summary

The parable of the sower and stilling the storm

Jesus travels preaching the kingdom of God with the twelve and several women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities. To a gathered multitude, he teaches the parable of the sower, explaining how the seed is the word of God and different hearts receive it in different ways: some lose it to the devil, some believe temporarily, some are choked by cares and pleasures, and some keep it and bear fruit with patience. He teaches that nothing is hidden that will not be revealed and emphasizes how to listen carefully. When crossing to the other side of the lake, Jesus rebukes the wind and raging water, calming the storm and asking the disciples where their faith is. In the Gadarenes, he casts many devils out of a demon-possessed man, sending them into a herd of swine that plunges into the lake. He heals a woman with an issue of blood and raises the daughter of Jairus, the synagogue ruler.
