Bible Chapter Summary
Matthew 12 Summary
Sabbath Controversy and Healing
The Pharisees accuse Jesus's disciples of breaking the Sabbath by plucking ears of corn to eat, but Jesus defends them by citing David's example and showing that the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath. Jesus then heals a man with a withered hand on the Sabbath, teaching that it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath. Later, a demon-possessed man who is blind and mute is brought to Jesus, who heals him, prompting the crowds to question if Jesus is the Son of David, though the Pharisees attribute the miracle to Beelzebub.
