Bible Chapter Summary
Matthew 20 Summary
The Labourers in the Vineyard; Predictions of Passion
Jesus teaches the parable of the kingdom of heaven as a householder who hires labourers throughout the day, promising them wages. Those hired at the eleventh hour receive the same penny as those hired in the morning, causing the early workers to murmur, but the householder defends his generosity and right to do what he will with his own. Jesus then tells his disciples that they go up to Jerusalem where the Son of Man shall be betrayed to the chief priests and scribes, condemned to death, delivered to the Gentiles to mock and scourge and crucify, and shall rise on the third day.
